Milky Way

The year is 2183 CE, 35 years after humans finally discovered the ruins of an ancient race called the Protheans on Mars. With the technology from these ruins, humanity learned the secrets of mass effect physics and element zero, unlocking faster-than-light travel. Humans also discovered the mass relay network that threaded the galaxy, permitting instantaneous passage across thousands of light-years. Humanity began its journey among the stars, encountering various alien races and establishing itself on the galactic stage.

Numerous opportunities have risen for humanity, leading many to venture into space. From the Alliance military, to colonies, to a newfound world of galatic politics. Though the final frontier has already been settled, that doesn't mean there's no work to be done. Plenty of planets remain undiscovered, many people in need of protectors, data and minerals to be found and traded. There are several species breaking the barrier into space, each of them at their own pace. Gradually, they will surface by their own means and interact with those already taking an active role in the galaxy.

A great scheme of events will come to play in due time. The room can decide at what point they want to be active in the Mass Effect plotline, but nothing will be permanent. Many "Shepards" make different decisions, and should a decision be made where it will disable another person from role playing, it would disappoint them and potientally others. Please read the rules for further clarification, or consult the FAQ's for answers.

Galactic Events

The following are merely ideas for role play, may it be group or one on one. If you have any ideas you would like to be listed, please provide a brief description to a mod or owner and it will be considered.

A formal party is to take place amongst the wealthy, the brave, the famous, and the politicians on the Citadel. An awards ceremony is being thrown for those who have fought bravely in the battle against Sovereign. Much time has passed since the attack, and the Citadel has nearly recovered completely. Many people are mingling in with crowds, and many are watching from afar...

An Alliance ship has disappeared some years ago in the Terminus Systems... While it's never been found, a distress beacon has been signaled. (No, this has nothing to do with Jacob's loyalty mission.) Supposedly, the ship made an emergency landing and many people survived, sustaining a civilization on the surface of a planet that's more barren and dry than Earth. The most facinating thing about this incident is that the ship was one of the first Alliance had set out after first contact with alien life. If the reports are accurate, that means the ship went dark well over 30 years ago...

Galactic Laws

o1. Easiest rule to remember! Don't be a dick.

o2. Seeing as how this is a Mass Effect room, expect there to be many duplicates of canon characters. Don't be upset to find another Shepard, or another Tali or Garrus, etc. That doesn't mean you can't role play as a canon character. We will be encouraging other story lines to take place, apart from Shepard's. That means, while you and another person might be playing as Wrex (for example), that doesn't mean you can't role play in the room. Just keep your role plays seperate.

o3. No stupid arguments. No one cares if you don't like Zaeed. No one cares if you think he's useless. In all honestly, if Zaeed could speak, he probably wouldn't give a fuck what you think about him. I'm willing to bet the other characters don't care, either. They shouldn't, they're fictional. You won't be banned for bickering, but you can get banned if you try to troll the room. Just making that clear. Trolling is a bannable offense.

o4. Try not to hoard names of canon characters and variants of their name. The room is for role play, and if you hoard names and you're not active in the room, you're going to disappoint a lot of people.

o5. You want to play an original character? By all means! OCs are welcome! We encourage original characters!

o6. You don't have to ask someone permission to post in the room. Matter of fact, it's not uncommon to have two role plays going on at once. Please limit OOC speak in the room, though. If it's a big event, we will have an OOC room open.

o7. Believe it or not, you don't need to interact with Shepard in every role play. There's lots of interesting characters to get involved with. If you want to be creative, start some mischief. You have an idea, give a post or talk about it if no one's doing anything.

o8. You have any questions that still aren't answered by the end of this page? Feel free to contact the owners or mods.

09. Goes without saying. No Godmodding and/or killing off someone else's character without the player's concent.

1o. If no one's around to help you, and you're not sure what to do, make sure you follow rule number one! New rules will be added eventually.

11. Like this one. In order to maintain a sense of decency in the group, intimacy is encouraged to stay within private messages. If you have any items on your profile that aren't safe for work, please give warning prior to the revealing of said items.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to take part in group RP to join the group?
Don't be silly, of course not. There's plenty of people in the group who prefer to have role play in PM. You can hang out in the room with the rest of us while you PM RP, it's perfectly fine.

I want to role play, but I don't know what to do...
Easy. You can do a lot of things if you just think on it for a while. If you're really stumped, try to talk about it with someone you're interested in role playing with. There's lots of ways you can stimulate your brain, thus many ways to help you come up with something. If you're interested in trying to rally a group, feel free to look at the Galactic Events.
